Note: Worldographer: (aka Hexographer 2) replaces Hexographer. It has all the features of Hexographer, plus better shape editing, better configuration, upgraded UI, true child maps, world data ganeration, undo/redo, cut/copy/paste and much more. And it too has a free version.

Kevin Chenevert at Red Kobold has put together a number of new wilderness map icons for Hexographer. Importing icons is a “Pro” feature in Hexographer, so this isn't possible in the free version.
Kevin writes, “The intent was to make them look like they were inked or drawn with a calligraphy brush or pen and had a watercolor wash.” They look marvelous! The working name for this set is “calligraphy” due to the style. He’s also agreed to make these publishable with the only caveat that you must credit him as “Kevin Chenevert of RedKobold.com.”
Here's a sample of a map using the new icons. It also uses recent Hexographer features that allow you to position icons freeform instead of tying them to the center of a hex, but you don't have to use them in the same way. (In the map editing window go to 'Options' and change the 'Terrain Placement' settings. I can provide more details if interested.)
Other icon sets are also available at: Extra Icon Sets: Hexographer Hex Map Software
And I'm posting new pairs of map icons that will be added to the next Hexographer version (pro users can download and add these--in Hexographer Pro go to 'Options' and choose 'Add/Edit/Remove Custom Terrain & Features): Inkwell Ideas » Shellfish and Submerged Battlefield Map Icons
